Travelogue, Post-Card Home, & Curio

The goal of this blog is to serve as a scrapbook of sights, thoughts and experiences that arise on the Barlow's travels. This is the 3rd in the series of "Spike & Maria's Excellent Travels" - the 1st being a record of their move from Canberra to Brisbane in 1991, and the 2nd being a record of their life in Japan between 1994 and 1996.

Our Itinerary

  • Till 8 March: Preparing (Australia)
  • 8 March - 2 April: Japan (Tokyo)
  • 3 April - 25 April: Greece (Santorini, Athens)
  • 25 April - 1 May: France (Paris)
  • 1 May - 3 June: USA (West Coast)
  • June 5 Onwards: Recovery!

9/3 - We're Here

Well, its Friday afternoon here in Japan and we're sitting in our friend Mari's house having a coffee and...believe it or not...watching cartoon network on the TV (for the kids).

This is a very quick posting and we'll try and make a more thorough one in the next few days.

Anyway, yesterday's trip went well...but was very long. We were all exhausted by the time we got in. We have a fantastic place that we're staying at, and it has been so heart warming (a good contrast to how cold we've found the weather) to receive all the assistance and help we have had from Keiko, Mari, and our other friends. Zoe and Grant seem to be having a great time and have already started on their journals as they have so many exciting things to tell about.

We've spent the last few hours in Kichijoji - which is the area Maria and I used to visit a couple of times a week while we lived here. I can't begin to describe the feeling of longing, old memories reawakened, and finding an old-part-of-yourself long forgotten.

Our love to everyone back home.
